Knoebels Amusement Resort

About the Park:

The state's best-kept secret, Knoebels has been entertaining central Pennsylvanians since 1926, when Henry "Ole Hen" Knoebel constructed a stream-fed swimming pool to profit from "tally-hos," Sunday excursions to his woodland groves, which had been occurring since the turn of the century. Ride and food concessions soon followed, expanding the size of the park. Knoebels remains a sylvan oasis, however, even as the number of New Jersey and New York state license plates in the parking lot continues to grow. Unbelievably affordable prices and vintage rides make this modest, family-run park an ideal destination for those tired of the synthetic flair and long lines of theme parks. Roller coaster enthusiasts take note: the wooden Phoenix, moved to Knoebels from Playland Park in San Antonio, Texas, in 1985, is a formidable beast some 3200 feet long and is one of the best in the country.
