Things to do with $5 in the Lehigh Valley

You can:
- see a movie at the
AMC Tilghman 8
- take four friends to the
Plaza 2 theatre
- buy a tank of gas and drive to the State Theatre in Easton
- go to Yocco's and have 3 classic Yocco dogs
- have a BK Broiler, large fries and small soda ($4.99 with tax :)
- visit the Trexler State Game Preserve
- follow the covered bridge tour (and use the five bucks for something else)
- bet on the horses at the Downs on Airport Rd.
- get a pile of "atomic" buffalo wings at Bridgeworks in Bethlehem
- buy three different kinds of coffee beans at the Coffee Grinder in the
Lehigh Valley Mall.
- buy a book at Encore Books in the Village West Shopping Center
- rent a movie (and get popcorn) at Blockbuster
- go shopping at the open-air mall on Hamilton Street (the five bucks is
for parking.)
- go to the Lehigh County Velodrome for world-class bicycle racing
- have your car hand-washed at the Sumner Avenue car wash
- have two incredible garlicpretzels at the Pretzel Gourmet
- hear the Allentown Symphony Orchestra
- pay your cover at Godfrey Daniels for great live music
- buy a banana split at Ice Cream World
- have fresh coffee and pie with live local music at the Hava Java on 19th
street in Allentown
- pay your admission (during the months when there is one) and spend the
day at the Hawk Mountain sanctuary and preserve
- take a ride on the Kempton steam railroad
- skip the five bucks thing and watch X-files on Friday
- buy a lot of pizza from Little Ceasar's (if everyone chips in their
five bucks)
- buy the pasta, sauce, cheese and bread for an excellent pasta dinner
from the Giant supermarket
- buy a cd during a midnight madness sale at Toones on Hamilton Blvd.
- find another dollar-fifty in the sofa and see The Rocky Horror Picture
Show at the General Cinema Theatres
- choose from John Wannamaker's magnificent collection of CHOCOLATE
(north, exterior entrance at the Lehigh Valley Mall.)
- pay your cover and have change for beer and the cd jukebox at the
Tally Ho' in Bethlehem
- see the
Liberty Bell Shrine
in Allentown
- have a huge basket of shaved, batter-dipped, fried onions at Wertz's
- buy a dozen fresh bagels at the Bethlehem Bagel bakery on Main Street
- buy a paperback in the Moravian
bookstore in Bethlehem
- go midnight bowling (11pm-2am) at Jordan Lanes in Allentown
- have your car valet parked at the Lehigh Valley mall and window shop
all afternoon
- have an "awesome blossom" at Chili's on Grape street in Whitehall
(its a huge onion sliced vertically almost all the way to the bottom,
spread open, battered dipped and deep fried--cholesterol death but
delicious.)
- take the change from the AMC Tilghman 8 theatre and go to the Trivet
for coffee--they're open 24 hours a day
- go dancing at the Freight Yard in Allentown
- get pizza, all the garlic bread you can eat and free wine at "Pain and
Vino" on Shoenersville road in Bethlehem
- visit the Rose Gardens in Allentown (its free but you can use your five
bucks for postcards)
- shoot pool at Buzzy's on Union Boulevard
- stock up on trail mix and hike a section of the Appalacian Trail
- visit Josh Early candies on Tilghman street
- go to the Great Allentown Fair
- spend the day at Musikfest taking in the sights and free concerts
- have a bowl of Confetti Cafe's famous split pea soup
- drop by the Chicken Lounge for wings, beer and live music on Fridays
and Saturdays
- vist the Orang Julius stand in the Whitehall or Lehigh Valley malls
(they make a delicious whipped/blended fruit drink that comes in various
fruit flavors)
- go ice skating at the Ice Palace on Hanover Avenue
- go roller skating at Skateaway (north on MacArthur past the malls)
- spend the day sailing/picnicing/tanning at Lake Nockamixon
(40 minutes south of the Lehigh Valley, its the closest lake--
no motorboats, all fishing and sailing)
- go to a ski-demo day at Blue Mountain ski area
- tour Stroh's brewery
- see a play Lehigh University's
Wilbur Drama Workshop
- take a tour and taste test of the
Clover Hill vineyards
- tour the famous
Martin Guitar company
- enjoy a spring Pennsylvania evening (ok, so this is seasonal) at a
drive-in theatre.
